What are the side effects of biostimulators?

Clinical studies reveal very rare cases of side effects. The biostimulators used in the LHR Clinic come from reference laboratories and have been on the market for 25 years. The most frequent symptoms after the procedure are discomfort, swelling, and, in some cases, redness which will resolve on their own after a week. In a very limited number of cases, small lumps eventually appear under the skin in the treated area which disappear with time.

Frequently asked questions about the bioestimulator

What is it?

This product works deep within the dermis, helping to restore lost collagen. The enhanced collagen structure provides a foundation that slowly restores the toned appearance of the skin, helping to diminish deep facial wrinkles and grooves.

Poly-l-lactic acid, the main ingredient of this product, has been used in surgical procedures for over 40 years. Arise from fruit acids, it is also used for bioabsorbable sutures, in-bone plaques, and screws. It is not harmful and naturally absorbed by the body.

It provides a non-surgical facelift for patients, giving subtle and natural-looking results for up to two years, but in clinical practice the results are often seen after this period. It increases the thickness of the dermis and helps to remove fine lines, smooth wrinkles, and increase the volume in face areas that are lost with age.

How is it administered?

Prior to the treatment, Dr. Augusto Guerreiro works closely with each patient to carefully map out entry points based on their facial anatomy, skin condition, facial profile, and the aesthetic results they hope to achieve. To prepare for the procedure, any makeup is removed, and injection sites are cleaned with an antiseptic solution. A topical or local anaesthetic is often given to relieve any possible discomfort. Using in most cases a cannula, Dr. Augusto Guerreiro injects the solution into the skin with specific techniques.

Treatment requirements vary according to the patient, but the biostimulator is usually administered in an initial approach two to three times at six-week intervals. After two years, the treatment is only aimed at maintenance.

Why choose this treatment with a biostimulator?

Because it is a sophisticated treatment that has many benefits:

  • Stimulates the growth of your own collagen
  • Gives subtle and natural-looking results gradually (people won’t know you did the procedure unless you tell them)
  • Long-lasting effects: 24 months.
  • Improves facial features that have lost volume, including smile lines and cheekbones
  • Biodegradable, biocompatible and clinically safe
  • Useful for a wide range of treatment areas including cheeks, nasolabial folds, chin, and neck.
  • Cost-benefit for treatment of larger areas.
What care is needed after a biostimulator treatment?

Post-treatment care is crucial to get the most out of your session:

  • During the first 24 hours after treatment, apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the injection sites for a few minutes at a time to help reduce swelling
  • For 5 days after treatment, massage the areas for 5 minutes 5 times a day. It is the rule of 5 and is crucial for the optimization of the treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure until swelling and redness has subsided
  • Use a high protection sunscreen to protect your skin
How long should I wait until I see results?

Immediately after each session, it may seem that the treatment has already done its job due to the mild swelling that may occur, and the water used to inject the product. . This swelling will subside in a few days, and its folds and wrinkles will temporarily reappear. A lasting improvement from your treatment will begin to appear about six weeks after the session. sults will progressively improve with each treatment as collagen is restored and the internal structure of the skin improves.

Remember that collagen needs time to develop naturally and is not injected directly like other treatments.

Who can benefit from this treatment?

The brand we use in our LHR clinic is unique to stimulate your body in the renewal of lost firmness. It is suitable for men and women of different ages who find some flabby skin.

Near the late 20s and early 30s, collagen production slows down. It’s the perfect time to start the biostimulator to maintain high levels of collagen, which works to keep the skin firmer for longer. It is an “anti-ageing prophylaxis”.

In the 30s and 40s, the biostimulator naturally enhances collagen and cheek volume so it is perfect to maintain jawline and wrinkle correction.

In the 50s and onwards, this treatment is ideal for restoring facial volume and contours, correcting facial flaccidity, and improving the jawline. Patients can achieve the appearance of a complete facelift without the need for surgery, which is more aggressive. Results can last up to 2 years, making this a great cost-effective alternative to fillings. At these ages, patients usually achieve the desired result after 2 to 5 treatments, depending on the cases.
