Hair biostimulation with Platelet-Rich Plasma (Capillary PRP)

Hair PRP can be administered at the time of hair transplant and in the following months, stimulating angiogenesis (new blood vessels) and helping to maximise the survival of transplanted follicles and strengthen existing ones. It also reduces the formation of scabs, trauma, inflammation, and erythema, and helps the skin heal quicker.
It can be combined with other treatments that stimulate follicle growth such as Hair Mesotherapy.

Platelets are blood cells that endogenously induce fibroblasts (a fundamental cell that determines the structure and quality of the skin), in which their high concentration is obtained after centrifugation of the patient’s blood. This high concentration of platelets present in PRP (4-7 times higher than that in the blood), makes it an important hair treatment to strengthen the follicle, ensuring its longevity and potentiality, and also to reinvigorate dormant follicles and stimulate the growth of new hair.

In a more technical explanation bioestimulation is the name given to the biological stimulation of fibroblast functions. Biological activation of fibroblast occurs mainly due to growth factors and this activation leads to the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (essential elements of skin structure).

How treatment is done?

Treatment with platelet-rich plasma is done in the doctor’s office, following the following steps:

  • The doctor or nurse removes a syringe of blood from the patient, as if for a routine test;
  • Through a closed and sterile system, this blood is placed in a centrifuge and the plasma is separated from the other blood components;
  • Then this platelet-rich plasma is infiltrated directly into the scalp with the multi-puncture technique.

Sessions and maintenance

The protocol is specific for each patient. However, it is recommended to perform 3 to 5 sessions, with 3-4 weeks between sessions in an initial treatment. Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes (anesthesia, blood sample collection, platelet-rich plasma preparation and infiltration).

Care after PRP application

Care after PRP application is to avoid sun exposure, use of saunas, physical exercise, and skin cleansing during the 24 hours following treatment.

After plasma’s application on the face may be temporary pain and redness, swelling, small bruises, and inflammation on the skin, but these may disappear very quickly. In this treatment there is no type of allergic reaction because it is a biological product obtained from the patient himself.
